Gary S. Straus Memorial Scholarship

Gary S. Straus worked as a Sanitarian for the Wayne Health Department, and in 1972, passed away suddenly while at work at the young age of 23. In his honor, his family founded the Gary S. Straus Memorial Scholarship with the New Jersey Environmental Health Association. This scholarship supports members of the Association who are pursuing a degree in environmental or public health at an accredited college, university, or institution of higher learning located in New Jersey, New York, or Pennsylvania. The scholarship is intended for degree-seeking students only; other educational pursuits, including continuing education credits, are not eligible for this scholarship. Previous recipients of this scholarship are not eligible. The maximum individual scholarship award shall not exceed $1000.00, and a maximum of two scholarships are awarded each year. Scholarship awardees are announced at the NJEHA Fall Seminar and General Membership Meeting. 

    Successful applicants must:

• Be a member in good standing of the New Jersey Environmental Health Association (active member for at least 2 years, dues not delinquent during that period, and has attended a minimum of 2 NJEHA meetings per year during that period).
• Be enrolled in a qualifying degree program.
• Submit a complete application between January 1 and August 31, accompanied by a certified copy of the applicant's student transcript.

Paschal Nwako Scholarship

The Paschal Nwako Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to students currently enrolled in the Environment and Public Health (EPH) Program who are pursuing professional development in environmental and public health. Applicants must be self-funded, complete and submit the official scholarship application by July 31, and provide a statement of need for consideration.
